Write about your most epic baking or cooking fail.
When I was 15 years old, I tried to make dinner for my family and my boyfriend. If I remember correctly, it was the first time I tried to cook a meal. I had a recipe book and chose Swedish meatballs for the occasion. I spent over 45 minutes rolling the meatballs, and then I put them into the oven to bake while I cooked the wide, flat noodles.
Then I set the table for dinner and tied up all but one loose string. I called everyone in for dinner . As I served the meal It finally hit me, the one string that I hadn’t tied up. The one piece of the recipe that was missing was the sauce. That night, we dined on wide flat noodles with butter and baked dry meatballs that were decidedly not Swedish in any possible way.
That was an ambitious endeavor and very amusing! I’ve never had a Swedish meatball, but the ones at IKEA look kinda good even to a vegetarian. Maybe I was just hungry from all the walking around in that place. I always opt for their delicious carrots as a snack instead.
I think my worst endeavor was when I was in my early twenties, and hard core vegan. Thirty years ago it was much more difficult, and products weren’t the greatest. I made a “vegan meat loaf” from TVP – Textured Vegetable Protein, thinking it would taste just like my mother’s as long as I added fresh dill just like she did.
It was nothing like hers, and it was pretty much inedible. My children who were one and three years old at the time were always my “taste testers,” and they ate most everything I made! Even this didn’t get past them. It became dog food for Chelsea, our family Atlanta Humane Society rescue. She ate the bulk of my vegan “failures” so food was never wasted.
Great story thanks for sharing and making me feel a little bit less embarrassed 😳 😊
Haha, HATE when that happens! 🙄
Absolutely!
