What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
I’ve always had a very sensitive nose. When I was a little girl, we used to visit my great-grandparents, and I enjoyed those visits with one exception ,the smell . I can still remember the smell of rotten milk and urine that filled my nostrils and haunted my dreams. I was always afraid of aging because of that smell. Now that I’m about to be 60,I don’t fear aging because I know that the smell that makes my flesh crawl won’t necessarily accompany the process. My mother is now older than my great grandparents were way back then, and she smells lovely . Also , I no longer have to wear a diaper, which means that the smell of urine will no longer be my smell, at least not in the near future. I’ve never really feared death. But I just really feared emitting the odor that I associated with aging.
I remember my great-grandmother and her “old lady smell,” so I understand your point. Aging has all kinds of challenges, especially as our health declines.
No kidding!
