What strategies do you use to maintain your health and well-being?

Three years ago, I had gained too much weight. I’m 59 years old, 170 cm in height, and have small bones and should weigh no more than 145 lbs. My usual weight is between 130 and 140 lbs, and I weighed approximately 180 lbs . If you expect a photo, don’t. Because I’m partially paralyzed and a wheelchair user, working out in order to lose weight isn’t really an option, so I lost the weight through portion control, I ate whatever I wanted, but in very small portions. But I went a bit too far, and last year, I weighed 125 lbs and looked far too thin and had no energy. Within the past year, I’ve gained 10 to 15 lbs, and it was harder than you might think. I gained the weight by eating an extra meal every day,but the meal was healthy food, like a salad or a fruit plate with a piece of bread and butter or some cheese, or peanut butter and jelly. It’s not so easy to put on weight in a healthy way when you’re used to depriving yourself of food in general.I finally feel good with my weight and better about my health in general, although I would like to be a little healthier and I’m working on it. The one exercise I can and will do is squats while holding onto a grab bar. I pull myself up from my wheelchair and then I sit down until I’m almost actually sitting, then I repeat the action 10 times focusing on my left or weaker leg, in order to strengthen the leg.

  1. I feel you completely ~ pulled into the town of my current residence so depleted I looked twenty years older than just a couple of years ago ~ knew it was time to prioritize both quality and quantity of food intake. It’s every penny I’ve got right now, but better than feeling that horrible weakness creeping back…

        1. I know about heart issues. I had a tumor removed from my right atria, but not before it caused a massive stroke. It’s been 9 years since and I’m still using a power wheelchair.

          1. It was touch and go for 10 days in the ICU. And a 3 week wait while cardiac and neurologist were arguing about heart surgery possibly causing another stroke. So yeah I’m lucky to be responding 😌
