Brrr

How do you feel about cold weather?

I’ve always enjoyed a crisp day. It’s the kind of day when the air puts a little color in your cheeks. I was comfortable with the cold. As a Canadian, it came in handy. Then I moved to Los Angeles, California, and I hated the heat, and the sun in the winter didn’t feel right. I toughed it out for 18 years before moving back home. Then menopause hit, and I couldn’t get cold enough. I remember going out onto the balcony of my Montreal apartment after midnight in nothing but a robe in February and opening the robe, and just watching the heat escape my body . It was wonderful. Now I’m post menopausal and I need more heat just to stay comfortable, which is why I live in a city with the warmest winter climate in Canada. It’s wonderfully temperate.  I love sunshine but prefer a cooler temperature with it. My perfect day is sunny and anywhere between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius with no wind.  Preferably in the spring because I have the most energy during spring, and since my stroke nearly ten years ago, energy is on low supply. It sucks getting older, but I’m tough. Old age isn’t for sissies, as Bette Davis used to say.

Butterfly distraction

We’ve had this toy for as long as the cats have been here, and this morning, we finally decided to turn it on ,much to their delight. It’s great for distracting them for about a half hour. Now we know that they love toys that fly and not just chasing foam balls. Time to start scrolling Amazon for more toys so we can interact with the cats while they play.

Broken

Have you ever broken a bone?

I’m very lucky in that I’ve never broken a bone, however…

I have had a surgeon use a rib spreader to break through my sternum and spread my ribs apart in order to remove a large tumor from my right atria in my heart, a 4.5 hour surgery, during which I also had 2 blood transfusions. A surgery that occurred just 3 weeks after a massive stroke that very nearly killed me

So maybe not so lucky after all.  Just tough and determined.

Matinee

Just got home from a truly incredible matinee performance of Cirque du Soleil Crystal . It’s a brand new show that takes place in the air and on ICE! There were some very funny moments, but mostly gasp worthy stunts beautifully done to live music. Amazing skating throughout, including a nod to Canada’s second favorite sport, hockey. If you’re wondering what the most popular sport in Canada is, it’s a real Canadian one, invented by a Canadian,  basketball. Speaking of balls, the show begins with a fantastic juggling performance. And the aerial acrobatics had everyone gasping.

This wasn’t my first Cirque du Soleil show, I’ve been a huge fan since the 90s, but it was my mother’s first time seeing it, and she was completely blown away . Crystal was my second favorite iteration of Cirque du Soleil. My absolute favorite was O, and that is hard to beat .

What a wonderful afternoon, watching Canadian entertainment.

My wedding ring

It’s just under a decade old because our tenth anniversary is in early January, the ring was purchased in November of 2015. It’s a 7 – and three-quarter carat morganite with baguette diamonds on either side and tiny, pink saffires on the top and bottom of the ring.

My most important piece of jewelry

Three?

The other day, I wondered aloud to my husband if the adoption paperwork included the birthday of our 3 year old cats so we could make it a special day for them. Hubby brought out the paperwork, and we now have their birthday. It wasn’t at all what we expected because their birthday was NOT  3 years ago as we were told.

You don’t say!

The paperwork has their birthday listed as April 17th, 2023. Their gotcha day is April 19th, 2025,and mere 2 days after their SECOND  birthday . We were thrilled with the news because it means that we get an extra year but also because it explains why they still act like kittens 😸.  If they were 3,they would be much lazier than they are, and they might respond to their names a little better than they do. But we don’t mind at all . We’re just happy that we get to see them grow into the cats they will be and that we will be able to have a bit of influence on the grown version.

Day 3 with us

They’re no longer spending as much time snuggling together out of nerves, and that shows us that they’re growing up already .we can’t wait to see their next steps towards adulthood.

Loving their tree.
