My Saturday was not spent in the park

No,I spent all day Saturday, from 9 am to 11:45 pm in the hospital . It all started around 8 am,when I was getting up. I was transferring to my wheelchair when I lost my balance and collapsed on our new vinyl plank flooring that is sitting on top of concrete. Unfortunately, my head was the first thing to hit the floor, followed by my shoulder, then my hip, and finally, my knee. Thankfully, I collapsed on my left side, aka my paralyzed side, because it hurt less than my good right side would have . My husband was in the bathroom getting it ready for me when it happened . When he came back into the living room and saw me lying on the floor with blood pooling under my head ,he immediately called 911. The ambulance came 30 minutes later, and paramedics lifted me onto a stretcher, and I was off to the hospital.  In the ambulance, the female paramedic, named Gabby, bandaged my forehead and tried to get some of the already coagulated blood out of my freshly shorn hair. I’m back to a very cute pixie cut, as you can see here in a photo my mom took last Saturday at a performance from our local ballet company of the original Aladin.

Great show!  Amazing male dancers.

I waited in the stretcher for an hour at the entrance and got my blood drawn and an EKG before I finally got a trauma bed in the emergency room. A bit of advice, try to schedule a medical emergency for a day that isn’t as busy as a Saturday morning on Thanksgiving weekend if you can 😉. All of the hospital staff were so professional and so lovely with me.  I got a CT scan of my brain and x-rays of my shoulder and hip. Thankfully, the damage was only soft tissue damage, but we wanted to be safe because paralyzed limbs don’t feel pain the same way . I also got a shot of Dilaudid for the pain just before the scan and x-rays . Unfortunately, the one milligram of Dilaudid made me nauseated. Fortunately ,it called attention to the fact that I had a mild concussion . The nurse wanted to give me antinausea medication, but I react poorly to it, so I had to ride it out.  Medication for nausea causes me to throw up, always has.  I also received a tetanus shot. In total,  I threw up water 9 times. I only had water in my stomach and I had to wait until I was having dry heaves before finally going home at 11:45 pm,where I took a sip of water, threw it up, and went to sleep for 8 hours, and awoke feeling much better. I tried small sips of clear apple juice mixed with water and was able to keep it down before having a small amount of mashed potatoes around 10:30 am.  I kept them down, too. I had lunch of  chicken noodle soup and half a brioche bun ,and meatloaf, twice baked potato, and asparagus for dinner. With the concussion over all that’s left is to heal from all of the deep bruising and the shallow ones as well. It was a very scary day, especially for my husband, who had to launder the pillow and towel that he put under my bleeding head before meeting me at the hospital. There was a lot of blood. Head wounds bleed a lot.

This is me now.  My hair isn’t cute because of all the dried blood in it. I can’t wash my hair until the stuff covering my wound has fallen off in two days time.
